Polymer buyers' questions, answered.
Straight answers about PVA emulsions, styrene acrylic binders and unsaturated polyester resins, from the technical team at TAFAUL Chemical Industry in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
Who manufactures PVA emulsion in Saudi Arabia?
TAFAUL Chemical Industry manufactures water-based polyvinyl acetate (PVA) homopolymer emulsions at its facility in the 3rd Industrial Area of Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Grades from 25% to 50% solids are supplied to adhesive, construction and textile manufacturers across the Kingdom, the GCC and export markets.
What is PVA emulsion used for?
PVA (polyvinyl acetate) emulsion is the raw material for white glue and wood adhesives. It is also used in paper and packaging adhesives, parquet flooring adhesives, bookbinding, and as a stiffening and sizing agent in textiles.
What is the difference between homopolymer and copolymer emulsion for wood glue?
A homopolymer emulsion polymerises vinyl acetate alone, giving high bond strength and fast setting on porous substrates like wood and paper. A copolymer adds a second monomer for a softer, more flexible film with better water resistance. TAFAUL supplies homopolymer grades (TAF HO 40, TAF HO 50, TAF Zan, TAF Cheetah) and the copolymer TAF CO 80.
What is styrene acrylic emulsion used for in paints?
Styrene acrylic emulsion is the binder that holds pigment and filler together in water-based paints. TAFAUL's TAF ST 62 and TAF ST 64 dry to crack-free films with high water and alkali resistance, used from high-gloss to matt paints, primers and textured finishes on plaster, masonry, concrete and wood.
Are TAFAUL styrene acrylic emulsions APEO- and formaldehyde-free?
Yes. TAF ST 62 and TAF ST 64 are surfactant-stabilised styrene acrylic dispersions manufactured free of APEO and formaldehyde, supporting lower-VOC, more environmentally responsible paint formulations.
What is UPR (unsaturated polyester resin) used for?
UPR cures into a rigid thermoset and is the workhorse resin of fiberglass (GRP) composites, water tanks, boats, sanitary ware, ducting and automotive parts. Filled casting grades produce cultured (artificial) marble such as countertops and bathtubs, and gelcoat grades give the glossy protective surface layer.
What is the difference between orthophthalic and isophthalic polyester resin?
Orthophthalic resins, like TAF UP-1100 TP, are economical general-purpose laminating resins. Isophthalic resins, like TAF UP-2100 P/RTM and the TAF UP-2900 W gelcoat, offer better chemical, water and weather resistance, preferred for marine applications, tanks and exposed surfaces.
Which resin is used for artificial (cultured) marble?
Cultured marble is cast from filled unsaturated polyester resin. TAFAUL's TAF UP-1500 ET and TAF UP-1800 ET are formulated for high filler loading, superior wetting, low cracking tendency and rapid gel and cure, used for countertops, bathtubs and wash basins.
What packaging does TAFAUL offer, and what is the minimum order quantity?
Depending on grade: 2 to 3 kg plastic gallons, 30 kg drums, 200 to 225 kg drums, 1000 kg IBC tanks and 20 MT bulk tankers. Minimum order quantity depends on the grade and destination, request a quotation for exact MOQ, pricing and lead time.
Does TAFAUL provide TDS, SDS and free samples?
Yes. Every grade ships with a Technical Data Sheet (TDS) and Safety Data Sheet (SDS), and free samples are available for qualified manufacturers to validate performance on their own production line before ordering.
Where does TAFAUL export, and what are typical lead times?
From Jeddah on the Red Sea, TAFAUL exports to more than 30 markets across the GCC and Middle East, Europe, Asia, Africa and the Americas. Typical production lead time is 2 to 3 weeks, with full export documentation provided.
Can TAFAUL develop a custom polymer formulation?
Yes. Our R&D team develops bespoke polymer systems matched to your application, process and regulatory needs, from application-led formulation and pilot batches to full-scale production, with complete SDS and TDS documentation.
